How to become a Driving Instructor in Sheffield
What's this going to cost?
We will train you on a 1 to 1 pay as you go basis. Our fee per hour is from £30 with a minimum of 2 hours per lesson. Waiting periods for tests are quite long, the whole process could last between 6 months and 2 years. We recommend you contact us as soon as possible to discuss your personal situation as everyone is unique. Whilst there are 3 distinct parts to become a driving instructor, there is overlap between them.
Part 1 (theory) pass can be achieved with a minimum of expense. It will take a lot of study, and the purchase of books for research and of course the test fee. An app is available to aid you with this as well as the support you will gain from us.
Part 2 (driving ability) pass will require the help of our instructors, an assessment drive will indicate how many hours of training is required to get your driving to the required standard. Some think this is easy, it is not. Typically 10-20 hours of tuition may be needed at £30 per hour with a minimum of 2 hours per lesson. A lot of what is learnt here will feed into your part 3 driving instructor training.
Part 3 (instructional ability) is the toughest of the tests and the pass rate, nationally is low. Typically you will require 30+ hours at £30 per hour with a minimum of 2 hours per lesson. Once you have completed 40 hours in total, you can apply for a PDI trainee licence otherwise known as a pink badge. This is your chance to put your practice into action with real customers paying you for quality tuition. This will give you more experience for your part 3 test.
In role play, can you instruct a beginner, someone partly trained or a full licence holder for 2 lessons lasting 30 minutes each? Can you spot faults and fix them?
Best Driver Trainer Practical Test Advice
Your instructor will advise you when you’re nearly ready to take your driving test. It’s normal to feel anxious or nervous but your instructor won’t let you take your test if they didn’t think you were capable.
The idea of the test is to show the examiner you are a confident safe driver who is capable of making good decisions, has quick reactions when needed and able to drive alone while making good progress and adhering to safety as well as the legislation in place.
